The Story
How We Got Here
Research consistently shows that the people facing the greatest burdens—chronic stress, discrimination, and marginalization—are also the least likely to get the restorative sleep their minds and bodies need. This inequity has profound consequences for health, well-being, and longevity.
At the Cognition, Health, and Sleep Equity Laboratory, we believe that restorative sleep should not be a privilege. Our mission is to make healthy sleep a tangible, achievable reality for everyone by translating science into practical knowledge and empowering communities to advocate for the environments and conditions that make good sleep possible.
When people have access to good sleep, they can recover, heal, restore, and persevere. They are better equipped to care for themselves, support one another, and help build the healthier, more just communities we all deserve.
The Rest Carnival is that vision brought to life. It is our research in action—a place where science, community, and creativity come together to reimagine what becomes possible when everyone experiences optimal sleep.
